We plan to provide funds from the community wallet that can be used for projects and initiatives voted on by the community.
Musicians are the lifeblood of PixelBands as it relate’s to PixelBands’ mission to accelerate music on Solana. The value we bring to musicians is the marriage of innovations in royalties distributed through smart contracts with a strong and thriving community of musicians who are motivated to create, collaborate, monetize, and build an audience. Gen1 of PixelBands set out to achieve the primary goal of getting music on chain and creating a smart contract to distribute royalties to creators for the content they have embedded in the project. Releasing future generations of PixelBands collections will be a sustained way to provide value to musicians as well as grow the size of musicians in our community. While gen1 has proven to be a successful application of this mechanism, we can continue to provide ways for musicians to create, collaborate, and monetize through tools that get our community’s music on-chain and into the Solana ecosystem. This includes building tools for musicians to mint music NFTs as independent artists as well as groups of musicians within our community, and enhancing existing tools for musicians to create music using the PixelBands Studio.
While a segment of our community are musicians, we recognize the need to provide value for holders of PixelBands NFT. We see our NFT holders as investors in our mission and roadmap, and the value we deliver to them comes in many forms. Over the next 6 months, our plans to provide value to our holders start with enabling them to shape the growth and utility of PixelBands. Given our community wallet receives 5% of royalties from secondary sales, we want to give PixelBands holders a voice in how we provide benefits to them as a holder. In addition to leveraging our community wallet, we want to provide our holders with education and content related to unlocking the music utility in the NFTs they hold. Our long-term value proposition for PixelBands NFTs is that they will be the building blocks of music creation on Solana, and educating our holders on how to leverage them across the tools we build will be important to their long term understanding of the investment. Here’s how this looks over the next 6 months:
Exclusive and priority access to PixelBands NFT collections, drops and tools.
Holders of PixelBands NFTs will be rewarded with discounted royalties on future sales of music NFTs they create using PixelBand’s Music NFT Launchpad
Minter-Alpha Channel: A Discord channel dedicated to providing alpha and information on future mints and whitelist opportunities for PixelBands holders.
Educational content on getting utility from PixelBands NFTs: As we ship the tools on our roadmap, the utility of the NFTs holders own will rise. Given our holders own NFTs with the utility to create music, we will provide ongoing education and content exclusively accessible to PixelBands NFT holders.
Monthly Holder Bounties: We will provide opportunities for PixelBand holders to receive SOL from the community wallet by rewarding members who add value to the community by completing community bounties (such as sharing alpha, building PixelBands tools, supporting musicians in our community, and other community initiatives).
Funding project ideas/initiatives: If our investors have ideas or initiatives that they feel would enhance the value of PixelBands, we will provide a proposal process for them to pursue those ideas. We plan to provide funds from the community wallet that can be used for projects and initiatives voted on by the community.
6-month community roadmap:
Onboard verified artists to our community and drop unique NFT collections
Establish a governance mechanism for community proposals and voting
Provide incentives for music collaborations inside the PixelBands community
Deliver the tools that enable independent and collaborative creation of music NFTs
Provide ongoing opportunities to learn about music creation on web3 and how to utilize our NFTs
Create a content hub for accessing media and documentation related to utilizing PixelBands NFTs
PixelBands Holders will be given access to a toolkit with an enormous amount of information and resources that will aid them in their musical journey. This toolkit will consist of instructional videos, charts, music theory, recording / mixing guides, tutorials, midi files, and lessons written by PixelBands Staff and select community members. This toolkit will only exist on the PixelBands Studio website and can be referenced to yield the best results when using the studio, submitting stems, and/or creating a in a DAW. Access will be gated by a Solana wallet login, and will require the user to hold 1 PixelBands NFT to gain access to the entire toolkit. We will ensure this toolkit is comprehensive and enable users to learn an abundance of information about creating music, production, and recording. The mission of this toolkit is to be a massive value add for PixelBands holders, whether they are holding 1, or several NFTs from any PixelBands collection.
The PixelBands studio is a creative tool that lets you create with the music you own on-chain. We believe in a future where the building blocks of music (stems, beats, etc.) are owned and held by individuals and used in an on-chain environment to create music. The V1 version of the studio has a base functionality of bringing your PixelBands NFTs into a tool that layers sounds, the basis of music creation. While this is a first-of-it’s kind achievement, there is still much more functionality we plan to build into the studio. Our long term vision for the studio is to be an on-chain DAW (digital audio workstation) that supports both music composition and arrangement, and is engineered in a way that supports the use cases of the best music creators in the world. On top of the creative functionality of the tooling, we also are taking on a goal to building mechanisms to import and export on-chain music right in the studio. For example, if you’re creating a song and feel like you need a new drum beat, you should be able to access an inventory of drum stems on an open market by a creator or an owner of an on-chain piece of music. Our vision is that this will all be possible in the Pixelbands Studio.
Creating music on-chain is the future we want to build, therefore we have to build ways for Artists to take what they’ve created in their studios and get it on-chain. The first step to achieving this is to give musicians in our community the ability to take music they’ve created and mint it as a single NFT so that it can be bought and sold on a marketplace. There is no limit to the number of NFTs that can be minted, however v1 of our launchpad will require them to be minted one at a time.
Giving people the ability to mint music as NFTs gives creators an avenue to monetization and the benefits of smart contracts, such as autonomous royalties that are instant and copyright markers as all creations. This will live on Solana’s trust-less and permission-less open ledger forever. As stated above, the core use case we see for owning musical assets such as stems on-chain is ownership and use of creative material. But if we go beyond creation, we see a world where creators can mint songs or musical arrangements with ease. Giving Artists and Musicians access to mint their own songs they have created in their studios helps create a path for musicians to build a Web3 community around their music. This can be leveraged across the Solana ecosystem. Holders of PixelBands NFTs will be rewarded with discounted royalties on future sales of music NFTs they create. The PixelBands NFT launchpad uses a tiered royalty structure which is outlined below:

If creators have tools to create and mint music on-chain, the next logical step in a musician’s web3 journey is to monetize that creation by selling it on a marketplace. A marketplace focused exclusively on music NFTs will enable our community to monetize their music on a marketplace that is music focused and built to optimize for the use cases of music applications. We see the opportunity for a marketplace that builds around the paradigm of owning your digital assets and where buyers and sellers have the tools they need to thrive in a both a music-creation and music-consumption ecosystem. Our goal over the next 6 months will be to scope, resource, and build a beta marketplace for buying and selling music NFTs.

PixelBands NFTs are the tools that enables music creation and monetization on-chain through smart contracts. Through the technology of the non-fungible token, musicians are able to get their instrument specific creations on chain to be used by holders to create music using our studio. Given the core utility of PixelBands NFTs are ownership and use of creative digital assets in the form of audio files, the purpose of PixelBands NFT generation releases is to (a) expand opportunities to musicians to get their music on chain, (b) grow the size and strength of the PixelBands community of musicians, and (c) provide creators with a variety of sounds that span music genres and expand the selection of instruments music creators have access to. In addition to this, early generation PixelBands releases provide the assets needed to successfully build the suit of on-chain music tools on our roadmap. For example, the tooling required to mint a gen1 band will directly feed into the tooling for minting music NFTs broadly.
PixelBands Gen 1 (January 2022)
PixelBands Generation 1 is a collection of 4444 instrumental NFTs in the LoFi genre (75 bpm, Key of cmaj). The collection is made up of guitar, drum, bass, and keys stems from 80 musicians from the PixelBands Community.
